Another chance to extend our phone's help function. The main point of this service based on mobile cells is that by identifying our position, it provides information about nearby places, such as a restaurant, a café, a cinema, a museum, a grocery store, a hardware store, or simply a street, or a building that holds special significance for the user. Everyone can take part in shaping the stories of her/his neighbourhood and favourite places in the city, as well as reading what other people think, and following how they use the city – and discovering how well they know it.

Our aim

This program represents a new way of using the city and, contrary to similar applications, does not require a GPS device, but makes use of mobile cells instead. Thus, this service is available with a great variety of phones and can be used extensively.

How does it work?

All you need is your own experiences and a mobile phone with the software downloaded on it. You can upload your texts and remarks to already existing web pages (jó-hely.hu, geospace.hu). Our future plans include making our own collection.

Current state

The CityScout mobile application can list the interesting places at close quarters, and display them on a map, including our present position. We aim to extend the mobile client and to develop a mobile platform based on a locative function. We plan to enable users to update the web database of places from a cell phone and to increase the services available. In the long run, we would like to develop a web service, with the aid of which anyone can create new layers for the software and make it available to others. For example, a tourism company can upload the sites of Budapest and recommend a tour path.
