A hálózati infrastruktúra hardver szinten Linksys routerekre, szoftver szinten a saját OpenWRT Linux disztribúciónkra épül. A vizualizáció a hálózati csomópontok köré épül. A projekt sikerét nemzetközi tapasztalatcsere segíti, aminek keretében beszélgetéseket szervezünk és nemzetközi workshopokat veszünk részt (Budapest, Bratislava, Rio de Janeiro).

Jelenlegi állapot

Jelenleg egy teszt csomópont működik, amin kidolgoztuk a hálózat működtetéséhez szükséges szoftveres hátteret, és felmértük a hardveres lehetőségeket. A projekt honlapja is elkészült: felvilágosítást nyújt a rendszer működéséről és a fejlesztés előrehaladtáról.

We are developing a local network infrastructure for displaying local videos, and we encourage people living in the neighbourhood to participate. We aim to establish a consumers' co-operative, as well as creating local media operated by the users. Since it is a service invisible in the physical space, creating site-specific installations, which are able to represent the network and its contents in the urban space expressively, is an important part of the project. The community wifi network functions as a virtual public space that is activated by the media and its physical representation.

Our aim

The flow of information and cooperation may decrease the estrangement characteristic of cities. This project may help to develop the local community, on a human level, as well as economically. The installations presented in public space and the local content may shape the identity of this district of the city. As a socially responsible organisation, this is how the Kitchen Budapest contributes to the development of its urban setting with the aid of information and communication technologies.

How does it work?

Network infrastructure is based on Linksys routers, as well as our own OpenWRT Linux distribution. Local communication is aided by a “captive portal” system, which regularly guides users to the website of the project. Handling and distributing videos is done by a content-engine developed by us. We plan to promote the launching of the local media with various actions and programmes, and to introduce the project through an exchange of experience, in the scope of which we organise discussions and take part in international workshops (Budapest, Bratislava, Rio de Janeiro).

Current state

We have put a test node into operation in order to measure the software and hardware requirements of the project. There is a website, providing information about the system and the current state of development. We have modelled the installation, displaying network traffic. With the promotion leaflets ready, we can start to build the network at the beginning of September.

Most Internet accesses provide more bandwidth that you could possibly use. If you pay a monthly fee, it's like you were running the tap all the time.

Intergang wants to provide Internet for everybody. It provides the opportunity in a given geographical area for people to use the common bandwidth, or share his own in a smart way.
