Zeneszámok, játékok mellett most kutatóink arra tettek kísérletet, hogy megmutassák, bárki képes előre feltöltött hangokkal, hangmintákkal saját zene létrehozására. A kissebb-nagyobb csoportokban élő, működő közös zenélés a hagyományos eszköztárát gazdagítva, a digitális technika segítségével új dimenzióba lép.

A projekten belül két párhuzamosan futó kutatási irányt követünk.

Cell phones have long been used not only for phoning, but they rather function as an “omniscient” object which serves as an office, a help desk, and a tool with which we can train our creativity and fantasy, all in one. Beyond the downloaded music and games, our researchers have attempted to show that anyone is capable of making her/his own music from uploaded sounds and sound patterns. Collective music-making in smaller and bigger groups is now gaining new ground by enriching its traditional means with the aid of digital technology.

Our aim

We aim to enable users to create musical contents with their mobile phones. We support musical contents, which

are created with cell phones and radically extend the musical competency of the user. We plan to develop a digital music device with which anyone can make music by playing back, mixing and manipulating sounds and sound patterns.

Current state

We have followed two parallel directions in research within the project. We regard the mobile phone as a remote control, as well as an autonomous musical instrument. We make use of the data coming from the buttons of the phone and the accelerometer in both cases. The buttons allow the generation and the temporal organisation of sound patterns, while the phone's position in the hand enables the real-time gestural manipulation of the sound. We are developing a one-person play mode and a jamming mode in both cases. The project will be complete with the visualisation of the sounds in the next developmental phase.
